Payment Firm Nuvei Extends Support to 40 New Crypto Assets
E-commerce merchants partnered with the payment provider, Nuvei will now be able to transact with an array of cryptocurrencies across 200 countries, including top assets Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), lesser-known cryptos like Reddcoin and Bitcoin Gold, and hyper-volatile cryptos like Dogecoin (DOGE). Nuvei’s customers can also use Ripple (XRP), despite the asset’s ongoing legal woes and subsequent delistings from major exchanges.
Nuvei’s CEO and chairman- Philip Fayer, described the firm’s support for crypto assets as “empower[ing] our clients, large and small, with frictionless payment experiences and a greater opportunity to partake in a global marketplace.”
This announcement also affirmed that crypto-asset transactions would also provide “enhanced security, privacy, and integrity” exclusively to Nuvei’s users compared to traditional fiat payment methods. However, multiple crypto assets supported by Nuvei were subjected to 51% attacks previously.
In 2020, Nuvei had processed $14 billion from merchants, with the company handling $43 billion over the entirety of 2020. Nuvei’s announcement comes when competition between traditional payment providers entering the crypto sector is rising.
Last year, Paypal also announced that it would offer cryptocurrency services to its users, including purchasing and trading them. On March 22, U.S.-based online shopping app Buyaladdin announced that it would begin to accept BTC and ETH across multiple shopping malls in South Korea.
Besides this, Visa also announced a pilot program enabling all its partners to use the Ethereum blockchain to settle transactions made in fiat. This solution will utilize the USDC stablecoin for clearing transactions.
