Google Finance Adds a dedicated “Crypto” field
Google Finance recently added crypto prices to the finance.google.com domain. Right at the top of the page, where users can “compare markets,” crypto is listed alongside the five default markets, including the U.S., Europe, Asia and Currencies. This section provides pricing information of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
Additionally, Alphabet- Google’s parent owns video platform YouTube which had persistently annoyed crypto users by banning educational and news content. Cointelegraph and CoinDesk, the two largest publications of the crypto news space, have also been subject to suspensions later overturned after the video streaming platform confirmed they weren’t disregarding YouTube’s terms of service.
The cryptocurrency market has gained much traction due to institutional investors and corporations investing in the asset class. Their involvement skyrocketed the cryptocurrency market cap to $1 trillion in January. The crypto market cap was expected to reach $1.7 trillion in February before experiencing a pullback. Currently, the digital asset class is worth over $1.4 trillion.
Over the past three months, retail adoption and institutional interest have grown tremendously. According to United States Securities and Exchange Commissioner Hester Peirce, with Giant firms like Tesla and Mastercard actively accepting cryptocurrencies, there is a growing need for more apparent regulation. The calls for more precise guidelines on cryptocurrency is likely to grow louder as soon as the bull market heats up.
Meanwhile, Peirce also said the new Biden administration would provide a fresh look to the regulatory aspect.
