Binance Marks New Record Of $80B In Daily Volume
The world’s largest crypto exchange Binance has reported a new record trading volume of $80 billion in 24-hour on Jan. 4.
Binance CEO, Changpeng Zhao tweeted that the recent activity to the volume posted during the last record-breaking bull cycle, noting that the past day of trade equates to four-time the volume processed on the exchange from Nov. 15, 2017, to Dec. 15, 2017.
Within 24 hours of CZ’s tweet, Binance’s spot volume exceeded $23.6 billion and its derivatives represented nearly $57 billion in trade. Though it has created a milestone, CZ stated that the platform had experienced disruptions amid the record volume, stating:
“We saw some scaling issues today. We probably will see more issues as we continue to grow. We aren’t perfect, but we will fix them as quickly as we can.”
Binance also saw a new record of $190 million in liquidations over 10 minutes as the price of the bitcoin crashed below $30,000.
The founder and CEO of crypto derivatives exchange FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, reported on the same day that his exchange had processed more than $10 billion of the $180 billion in volume produced by the sector’s five-largest exchanges that day.
Binance's new record comes after bitcoin went above $30,000 and set an all-time high. Ethereum has gained four-figure prices for the first time since January 2018.
