MicroStrategy Bought Another $1 Billion worth BTC
MicroStrategy- the business intelligence firm recently announced its latest purchase of $1 billion worth BTC, boosting its emphasis on cryptocurrency.
MicroStrategy was the first institutional player to come forward and support the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market cap with a purchase of $250 million worth BTC last August. However, the company felt this wasn’t enough and bought more BTC a few months later, raising its ownership level beyond $400 million.
After that, the firm purchased BTC for the third time and later announced that it was looking to sell other assets – including convertible debt for raising funds necessary to buy even more BTC down the line. Till then, MicroStrategy had gathered more than $3 billion worth of BTC.
For most firms, this could be an excellent time to stop, but MicroStrategy thinks differently as having sold some of its debt, the enterprise has recently purchased more than $1 billion worth BTC. This indicates that MicroStrategy is quite passionate about the world’s primary digital asset and looks forward to gathering all it can within a specific window. The recent purchase added more than 19,400 more bitcoins to the company’s stash.
It is estimated that MicroStrategy has purchased BTC at a price of around $52,000. Bitcoin is currently trading for about $49,000 per unit, it can be said that the company has lost some money on this purchase. However, this was also the case in August as at that time; bitcoin had dipped around $12,000.
A month later, BTC had fallen further to just over $10,000 per unit that made MicroStrategy lose quite a bit, but things ultimately picked up in October, and the company never lost its faith. Perhaps this time around will be no different.
It also appears that MicroStrategy investors and shareholders are approving the recent purchase, as the company’s shares are raised by 5% for $730 each. MicroStrategy stock has even quadrupled in the past six months alone, making these bitcoin purchases exciting for company players.
CEO Michael Saylor also stated that the company is always focused on our two corporate strategies of growing our enterprise analytics software business and acquiring and holding bitcoin. We believe that bitcoin- the world’s most widely adopted cryptocurrency can serve as a dependable store of value. Overall, MicroStrategy owns more than 90,500 bitcoin units worth a whopping $4.5 billion.
