Crypto Scammers Turn To Terrorist With A Bomb Threat
As per the local news outlet, the Numata Town Hall office, a government infrastructure in Hokkaido, an island in Japan, received a threat of bomb explosion after authorities not responding to the bitcoin ransom demand.
The building received a call from an unknown person who threatened to explode the building with a bomb that would be planted on the building’s second floor. The FNN also stated that emails with threats were received on consecutive days last week.
The caller demanded a Bitcoin ransom which should be delivered by noon (0300 GMT) on Wednesday, and if the payment has not been made then the scammer will explode the building with already planted bombs.
However, authorities didn’t pay attention to the threat and yet the bomb has not exploded yet even after it has passed the time the anonymous caller threatened the bomb would be detonated. The local police have started the investigation on the lookout for any suspicious movement in and around the building, while also exploring the possibility of blackmail.
This is the first time a scammer has turned to terrorists by giving the bomb threats. Recently, a major scam took place on Twitter and Youtube where users had to send one BTC to get two.
A similar threat was received by Ukraine where some men threatened to bomb a building in Kyiv if they weren’t paid 50 Bitcoin. However, authorities took immediate action and local police arrested two suspects.
