Bitfinex Hackers Moved $4.1 Million Worth Bitcoins To An Unknown Wallet
The hackers from the Bitfinex hack four years ago continued to move their funds. Hackers transferred $4.1 million worth of bitcoin to an unknown wallet address.
As per the crypto tracking tool Whale Alert the hackers transferred 416 bitcoins (BTC) on 11th June. The value of this bitcoin is worth $4.1 million at the time of the transaction and 20 separate transactions took place to move the funds where each bears 15 to 33 BTC.
It is the biggest payday yet for hackers. Back in June 2019 and August 2019, there was a movement of 170 BTC and 300 BTC worth around $2.3 million and $2.7 million.
Recently, the hackers moved $800,000 or 77.64 bitcoin on June 2 and 28.4 BTC that valued $255,000 was executed on May 22. It is said that the coins are sold to unsuspecting buyers off the market. It looks as the transactions are carried in small quantities to provide a false sense of security. Usually, transactions take place when there is a spike in the price of bitcoins.
The hackers stole 120,000 bitcoins from the Hong Kong-based crypto exchange Bitfinex in 2016. Back in those days, the stolen bitcoins were valued at $72 million, but that bitcoin’s stash is worth over $1.1 billion at current prices. However, last year, the exchange stated that they had recovered 27 bitcoin, worth over $100,000 at the time of writing. With the help of US law enforcement, Bitfinex was able to recover 27 stolen bitcoins.
