Standard Chartered to Launch Crypto Custody Services in Singapore by 2026
Standard Chartered has announced plans to extend its institutional crypto custody services to Singapore, aiming for a launch by 2026. This strategic move will enable the bank to provide custody for selected cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets to accredited corporate clients.
The bank's existing digital asset operations already cover key markets such as the UAE, Luxembourg, and Hong Kong, and the addition of Singapore marks a significant step in its global expansion.
Patrick Lee, CEO of Standard Chartered for Singapore, ASEAN, and South Asia, highlighted Singapore's status as a hub for financial innovation and the growing demand for secure digital asset solutions. He emphasized the importance of robust infrastructure to support the safekeeping and servicing of tokenized assets.
While the bank is preparing for this launch, it is still awaiting regulatory approval and has not yet specified which cryptocurrencies will be included in its custody offerings. The initiative aims to integrate traditional and digital asset management for institutional clients.
Standard Chartered's move into Singapore's crypto market builds on its recent initiatives, including the acquisition proposal for Zodia Custody, which aims to enhance its digital asset services under a regulated framework.
