Sony Music Files For NFT Related Trademark

According to USPTO-licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the recording company, Sony Music Entertainment has filed for trademarks related to non-fungible tokens and the Metaverse.

The company plans to release downloadable audio and video recordings that feature live music performances. With the help of NFTs, these recordings will get authenticated.

Additionally, the music company also plans music tracks in the form of NFTs. The second filing includes entertainment and marketing services for artists and their recordings.

NFTs are similar to cryptocurrencies, but they hold artwork, video, audio, and tickets instead of money. NFTs have already transformed many industries, including the music business.

Music tracks can be sold in NFTs that are represented in the form of unique tokens on the blockchain.

Many musicians have entered the NFT space. Back in March, Kings of Leon became the first band to release an album in the form of an NFT.

While in this month, Muse made history by becoming the first act to top the UK music chart as a limited edition NFT with its album called "Will of the People." The album was also available in traditional formats.

At the same time, the Weeknd included NFTs and Web3 elements in his global tour after partnering with the Binance exchange.
