SkyBridge Capital Launches a Private Ethereum Fund
New York City-based SkyBridge Capital, run by former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, has launched a private Ethereum fund for its investors.
In January, the firm launched a $25 million Bitcoin Fund, which will also apply to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an Ethereum ETF. SkyBridge Capital is one of the many high-profile companies that have applied to the SEC for a Bitcoin ETF. The company, which manages $7 billion in assets, filed with the SEC in March, and the SEC is currently reviewing the application.
An ETF is a popular investment tool enabling people to buy shares that track the price of an asset. This could be anything from real estate to foreign currencies. Whereas a Bitcoin ETF allows would-be investors to put their money in cryptocurrency without actually owning the cryptocurrency themselves but rather shares of it.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has not approved a single Bitcoin or Ether ETF. The Commission aims to protect retail investors from potential harm since Bitcoin’s price is still very much prone to market manipulation.
But there is a growing appetite for such a product among investors. There are four Bitcoin ETFs and four Ethereum ETFs currently trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada. They were extremely popular when they launched, but unfortunately, they have seen a large outflow of funds as the entire crypto market has lost value. Last week, Bitcoin ETFs in Brazil and Dubai started trading on their respective stock exchanges.
