NYSE Explores Avalanche for Innovative Tokenized Trading Platform
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is actively exploring the use of Avalanche to power its upcoming tokenized securities trading platform. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to facilitate 24/7 trading, marking a significant step in the NYSE's digital transformation.
Michael Blaugrund, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which owns the NYSE, discussed this potential collaboration during a recent event at the Avalanche Summit New York. While he did not confirm Avalanche as the final choice, he emphasized that it meets many of their requirements for a decentralized trading solution.
One of the key advantages of using Avalanche is its ability to create custom Layer 1 (L1) chains. This feature would allow the NYSE to embed Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols directly into the platform, streamlining compliance processes associated with on-chain securities trading.
This exploration follows the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) recent approval of the Innovation Exception, which permits tokenized stocks to be traded on decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms. Blaugrund highlighted that supporting tokenized securities is crucial for ICE's vision of a modernized market infrastructure.
As the NYSE prepares for the launch of its regulated Alternative Trading System (ATS), the collaboration with Avalanche could pave the way for innovative trading solutions that align with evolving regulatory frameworks.
