Ledger Wallet Users Data Leaked In Raidforums
Ledger, a hardware wallet company just got its data leaked online. The leaked data has information about 270k users that consists of physical addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. The data was made public over the hacker website Raidforms.
The data which is out in public was stolen in June’s hack of Ledger’s e-commerce database.
Ledger had accepted that data was hacked and it claimed that only 9,500 phone numbers, postal addresses, and details of product purchases were exposed during the hack in June. It seems that as per the claims the actual data stolen was much more than what Ledger claimed.
Ledger said,
“It is a massive understatement to say we sincerely regret this situation. We take privacy extremely seriously.”
Currently, Ledger is in work with law enforcement agencies to catch these hackers and as a result, 170 phishing websites taken down since the original data breach.
There is no leak of any financial information but users are worried that this publicly available leak data of personal information posed a greater threat than just phishing attacks.
One of the users said,
“Individuals who purchased a Ledger tend to have a high net worth in cryptocurrencies and will now be subject to both cyber harassments as well as physical harassments on a larger scale than experienced before.”
Another user said on Twitter that this leak is unforgivable and stated,
“Cut off business with them, only way companies in this space are gonna learn to take our physical security seriously.”
Some found it so offending that one threatened to take legal action against them.
This incident highlights the danger of storing information on a single server that can be hacked. Some believe that the new proposed Treasury Rule change that forces more KYC/AML upon users will only create more vulnerabilities for cyber-attackers to take advantage of.
