Intel Plans To Launch Cryptocurrency Mining Chips
Crypto mining is a process that solves complex algorithms and generates new coins, and verifies transactions on the Blockchain. So far, CPUs and graphics processing units were used. Nvidia's graphics cards are most popular among Crypto miners. However, these chips can perform multiple tasks. To overcome this issue, Intel will soon release an efficient and effective Cryptocurrency mining chipset. These chips will be an application-specific circuit, which means it specializes in mining and is better than general processors.
Raja M Koduri, the Senior Vice President of Intel said, "blockchain is a technology that has the potential to enable everyone to own much of the digital content and services they create."
He further added, " Adding to it, Koduri says that "some even call it an inflexion point in computing, fundamentally disrupting the way we store, process and transact our digital assets as we usher in the era of metaverse and Web 3.0."
Intel aims to develop scalable and sustainable solutions for those who deal with Blockchain technology daily. There are some Blockchains that require a massive amount of computing power which in turn requires energy. Therefore, Intel's Blockchain accelerators will be energy-efficient computing solutions, where miners can use it as an alternative to the chips that are being used currently.
By mid-year, Intel plans to ship the Blockchain accelerator. Argo Blockchain, BLOCK, and GRIID Infrastructure are the first customers of the new product. Intel believes that circuit innovation will be a product with 1000x better performance per watt than mainstream GPUs for SHA-256 based mining.
Additionally, Intel has established a new Custom Computer Group with the company's Accelerated Computing Systems. The team will build custom silicon platforms that are specially optimized for customers' workloads, including Blockchain and other custom accelerated supercomputing opportunities at the edge.
