Google Advertising Platform Is Running Fake Crypto Ads
CoinCorner reveals that Google Ads is running a phishing ad and the firm is not able to use its service.
Recently YouTube, the subsidiary of Google, faced a lawsuit for promoting scam ads related to cryptocurrency and now it seems that Google too is going to face the same accusation.
As per the cryptocurrency exchange, CoinCorner, Google advertising platform was running fraudulent crypto ads through its advertising network. CoinCorner claims that Google was promoting CoinCorner’s phishing clone website ad, CoinCornerr.com. This was reported by the marketing manager of CoinCorner, Molly Spiers, on 30th April.
The marketing manager reported it with Cointelegraph where she said that CoinCorner’s team first spotted the ad on Thursday morning while searching “CoinCorner” on Google.com and Google.co.uk. The executive of CoinCorner states that phishing ads were promoted by Google and also highlighted that the firm was not able to place their ads on Google for years.
CoinCorner, the Isle of Man-based crypto exchange that shares cryptocurrency live charts, was restricted from promoting ads on Google Ads since Google banned crypto ads back in 2018. However, Google announced the partial reversal of the ban but CoinCorner comes among those crypto firms that are not allowed to promote ads on Google Ads. Previously, when Google had not restricted crypto ads, CoinCorner was a loyal user of Google Ads.
Spiers said:
“We have previously had full access to the GoogleAds platform - we were loyal customers for 4 years, from when we launched CoinCorner in June 2014 to when Google updated their Financial Services policy in June 2018 [...] We have contacted Google a number of times to ask for updates on the UK, but to date, GoogleAds is still not available to us.”
As of now, the fraudulent CoinCornerr.com website is not available and as per the domain registration data, the website was created on 29th April.
