Facebook’s Popular Game FarmVille’s Creator Is Launching Blockchain Game Network
Facebook’s famous game FarmVille’s creator Eric Schiermeye is moving in the blockchain gaming industry. Eric Schiermeye is the founder and CEO of Blockchain Game Partners and its team is building a blockchain-based gaming platform termed as Gala Network. The platform lets the players own their own content and also, don’t fleece developers for the games that they create.Fifteen developers are currently working to build Gala.
In the interview with Venturebeat, Schiermeye believes that blockchain-based gaming will be “a revolutionary experience for people” enabling players to have full control over in-game items.
“Just like networked games and social games, I believe that blockchain games are the next evolution in gaming. Pretty soon, nobody will play a game that is a black hole of time and money, if they have good alternatives that allow the player to retain ownership of their time and money.”
Schiermeyer stated the industry-wide process by blockchain will bring more wealth to real people and can gain some of the value that could have been absorbed by large entertainment corporations.
“Unlike any other experience I’ve ever seen, when you spend money here, you actually get something, something that you can keep, and maybe even give away or give some to somebody else. You can’t do that in traditional free-to-play games right now. And people just accept that [...] We believe that by giving the players real value that the entire ecosystem will grow immensely. This is a tectonic shift that’s about to happen.”
Blockchain Game Partners is working with Sandbox Games to build Townstar which will be the first game on the Gala Network.
Townstar will be a fixed price token currency with a pseudo-mining feature. Here the players can purchase “loot boxes” containing the parts needed to develop a “farm bot,” which can be used to mine the in-game currency.
