Crypto Scammers Are Targeting Victims And Asking For Donations
People received scam emails from Japan asking for donations to the Olympic Games’ organization in Tokyo.
The outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic has led to postpone the Olympic Games which were going to take place in Japan, Tokyo. People are receiving emails from Olympic Committee Members and in these emails, the scammers are asking for donations from the victims.
As per the Micro report, crypto scammers are requesting to donate in crypto so that the Olympic organization of Japan could recover from the economic impact.
The fake email explains that Olympic organizations have to deal with the loss that they have invested in infrastructure materials, hotels, airline tickets, and production booking arrangements. The email also states that the government has been forced to collect funds to recover from the losses and that's why donations are necessary.
The crypto scammers specified if the funds are not recovered it can affect the image of the Japanese people image internationally and could lead to the cancellation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.
The email comes with an invitation for people to donate in bitcoin crypto wallets that belong to the International Olympic Committee. The one who donates will be able to purchase a ticket with a 30% discount.
According to an investigation conducted by Trend Micro, over 400 emails were sent from April 24 to 26thvia IP addresses that belong to internet providers in Japan.
