Citi Partners with Coinbase to Facilitate Corporate Stablecoin Payments
In a significant move for the crypto and banking sectors, Citigroup has announced a partnership with Coinbase aimed at enabling corporate clients to accept stablecoin payments seamlessly. This collaboration allows businesses to process stablecoin transactions without the need to manage the tokens directly.
Under this arrangement, Coinbase will provide the necessary blockchain infrastructure, while Citi will handle the conversion of stablecoin payments into traditional fiat currency and manage the settlement process. This partnership builds upon a previously established collaboration announced in October 2025.
Citi's existing tokenized deposit platform, which processes approximately $1 billion daily, will be enhanced by this new capability. The integration of Coinbase's blockchain technology with Citi's banking operations is expected to streamline payment processes for corporate customers.
While specific details regarding the launch date and participating clients have yet to be disclosed, the partnership signifies a growing trend of traditional financial institutions embracing digital currencies. This collaboration comes at a time when both companies have been navigating regulatory challenges surrounding stablecoin rewards.
As Citi continues to expand its digital asset services, including plans for cryptocurrency custody, this partnership with Coinbase positions it to capitalize on the increasing demand for stablecoin transactions in the corporate sector.
