Bitcoin Struggles to Recover from Historic $19 Billion Crash One Year Later

One year has passed since the crypto market experienced a staggering $19 billion liquidation event, and Bitcoin's price has yet to recover. Trading around $82,700, Bitcoin is currently about 34% lower than its all-time high of $126,080, reached just days before the crash on October 6, 2025.

The catastrophic event, triggered by geopolitical tensions and a sudden tariff announcement, led to the forced liquidation of over 1.6 million trading accounts. In a mere 40 minutes, approximately $6.93 billion was wiped out, with a staggering $3.21 billion liquidated in just one minute.

Since that fateful night, the market has undergone significant changes. Bitcoin's market cap has shrunk from around $2.43 trillion to approximately $1.66 trillion, reflecting a loss of about $738 billion. Meanwhile, the perpetual futures open interest plummeted by 43% in a single day, showcasing the extent of the market's turmoil.

Despite the crash, leverage remains a critical factor in the market dynamics. Recent weeks have seen renewed liquidation events, including a $1.1 billion day on October 8, 2026. Current data indicates that approximately $3.3 billion in Bitcoin shorts are at risk of liquidation if prices rise above $85,000, suggesting that the market's volatility is far from over.

As traders navigate this unpredictable landscape, the lessons from October 10, 2025, continue to resonate. The memory of the crash still looms large, influencing trading strategies and market sentiment as Bitcoin struggles to reclaim its former glory.
