Bitcoin Price Surges Past $78K Amid Intensifying CLARITY Act Discussions
Bitcoin's price has rebounded impressively, surpassing $78,000 on Monday after dipping to a low of $76,464 over the weekend. This surge comes as momentum builds around the CLARITY Act, which is currently under deliberation by House Democrats.
Market volatility led to significant liquidations, with over $223 million in leveraged positions wiped out. Notably, short positions accounted for over $41 million of this total, while long bets saw $16 million liquidated in the same timeframe.
As of 1:30 p.m. EST, Bitcoin was trading around $78,882, maintaining a market capitalization of approximately $1.58 trillion. This price point leaves Bitcoin nearly flat compared to its opening price of around $78,500 on September 1.
Despite the positive momentum, challenges loom. New York Attorney General Letitia James is leading a coalition of 18 state AGs opposing the CLARITY Act, raising concerns about its potential passage this year. Market analysts suggest that without this legislation, Bitcoin could face continued political gridlock, limiting its growth potential.
