BitPay adds Apple Pay on it's MasterCard
BitPay- the giant Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment service provider announced today that US cardholders of the BitPay Prepaid Mastercard would be able to add their card to Apple Wallet.
BitPay had partnered with Mastercard last year for a prepaid crypto debit card, which converts stored crypto to fiat when spent. BitPay already has its wallet app based on the same trick, but the company has an underlying hope that this Apple Pay integration will offer a great degree of flexibility.
In a recent statement, Stephen Pair - BitPay CEO said that the support for equivalent services on Google and Samsung phones is planned later this year. It's part of a broader effort to make Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies a universal payment mode.
BitPay also announced yesterday that some of its crypto services had been added to payment terminals in more than 100,000 physical stores, courtesy of a company called Poynt.
Earlier this week, the company said it plans to let its merchants get paid directly in crypto, without the need to settle in fiat which may please the crypto purists who wish to ditch fiat entirely.
BitPay Wallet app supports Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ether, four dollar-pegged stablecoins, USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD. To add a card to Apple Wallet, users should have the most recent version of the BitPay app, 12.1.0, available in the App Store.
