Alibaba Enters In Partnership With Chinese Port Operator For Blockchain Adoption
China Merchants Port is the biggest port operator in China that has joined hands with the e-commerce giant, Alibaba Group, and its affiliate, Ant Financial. The partnership will enable the development of a blockchain-based platform, which will target several different use cases.
As per the local outlet media, the platform will let buyers, sellers, logistic companies, banks, customs, and tax officials conduct contactless digital export and import transactions.
These two companies will promote an in-depth integration of blockchain technology in the port industry. The main motive of the companies is to become the world’s first blockchain-based digital port with an open collaboration network.
The report reveals that the port is a core node connecting the international commercial trading and logistics industry chain, emphasizing the need to apply an expeditious data sharing scheme with the help of blockchain technology.
The parties in China hope to “promote the rapid innovation and upgrade of the port business model” via a project.
The chairman of Ant Financial Group, Jing Xiandong said, “Blockchain will be the key infrastructure to reshape international trade and logistics. (…) As the engine for multi-party restructuring collaboration, Ant Blockchain technology will be the best solution.”
In total, China Merchants Port has 50 ports in 26 countries and regions around the world. Each port is very important for supporting global trade.
