Las Vegas Hacker Tried To Sell Hotel Database For Crypto

In 2019, the MGM Resort based in Las Vegas has caused a data breach which caused explosions of 142 million hotel guests. The stolen data was put on the sale by the hacker for roughly $2,900.

The information from ZDNet, states that 142,479,937 MGM hotel guests data is on sale on the dark web marketplace. The one who wants to buy the data has to make payment in Bitcoin (BTC) and Monero (XMR).

The resort authorities have confirmed that they are aware of a data breach that took place in 2019 and led the incident.

The research and investigation have been conducted and says that the hacker has not revealed or leaked any sensitive data from the hack. Rather, the hacker has exposed data relating to dates of birth and phone numbers from the hotel guests, including full names, postal addresses, and email addresses.

The investigation and article suggest that the MGM Resort data leak turned out to be bigger than expected.

One of the cybersecurity firms Digital Shadows has conducted a study and discovered that over 15 billion credentials are in circulation via the dark web, representing a 300% increase since 2018.
