The Prime Minister of Vietnam has asked the State Bank of Vietnam to conduct a cryptocurrency pilot programme from 2021 to 2023. The move is part of the country's e-government growth strategy, which includes a review of AI, big data, augmented reality, virtual reality, and blockchain technology. The SBV barred commercial banks and payment service providers from doing crypto transactions in 2018, citing the risk of money laundering, terrorism financing, and tax evasion as justifications.
