The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed fraud charges against cryptocurrency firm Unicoin and its top executives, alleging they raised over $100 million from more than 5,000 investors through misleading claims about their digital token, 'unicoin'. The SEC contends that Unicoin falsely promoted the token as being backed by valuable real estate assets in the Bahamas and Antigua, which were significantly overvalued and lacked proper validation. Additionally, the company is accused of making unregistered offers and sales of securities. Unicoin's CEO, Alex Konanykhin, has denied the allegations, labeling them as "blatantly false" and vowing to contest the charges in court.
