On May 29, 2025, the U.S. Treasury sanctioned Funnull Technology Inc., a Philippines-based firm, and its Chinese administrator Liu Lizhi for aiding cryptocurrency scams linked to "pig butchering" operations. Funnull allegedly provided infrastructure—bulk IP addresses—to cybercriminals running fraudulent investment sites. These scams, often tied to human trafficking and transnational crime, have surged globally. Cybersecurity experts from Silent Push and Chainalysis found Funnull’s links to scam and money-laundering networks. The Treasury's action highlights increased U.S. efforts to curb crypto-related fraud, especially as scammers adopt generative AI and advanced tactics to deceive and exploit victims at record-breaking financial and human costs.
