The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has delayed its plan to distribute 15 billion baht (US$460 million) in digital currency to its citizens. The BOT had originally planned to launch the program in November 2023, but has now pushed it back to early 2024. The BOT said that the delay is necessary to address some of the challenges that have been identified during the testing phase of the program. These challenges include ensuring that the digital currency is secure and easy to use, and preventing fraud and money laundering. The BOT also said that it wants to make sure that the digital currency is well-integrated with the existing financial system. This will involve working with commercial banks and other financial institutions to ensure that the digital currency can be used to make payments and access other financial services.
