South Korea is poised to underscore the significance of digital asset regulations by elevating its temporary crypto crime unit to a permanent status, reports a local media outlet, Segye Ilbo. The Justice Ministry and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will commence discussions in early May regarding the transition of the Joint Virtual Asset Crime Investigation Unit into an official department. Presently operating under the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office, the unit's temporary status leaves it susceptible to dissolution during inactive periods. Formalizing the unit is anticipated to enhance efficiency through the recruitment of new prosecutors and allocation of budget resources.
