Multiple cyber cells, including the one at Kolkata and Bidhannagar, have come across multiple complaints from students who have invested over Rs 14 lakh in a crypto app only to find it removed from the Google Play Store. The fraudsters, the complainants claim, have not informed them about their investments nor made any effort to return their money. Police have identified eight victims so far. The accused lured victims with promises of high returns through Bitcoin investments. Victims were encouraged to start with small amounts and allowed to withdraw profits initially, said cyber expert Hrithik Lall who is helping the victims.
