South Korea's top cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, is under investigation by the Financial Services Commission (FSC) due to concerns about its market dominance and close relationship with K-Bank, a key banking partner. Lawmakers raised alarms during a parliamentary review, pointing out that Upbit holds about 20% of K-Bank’s total deposits, which could create systemic risks if a bank run were triggered by any disruption in Upbit’s operations. The FSC plans to scrutinize this partnership as K-Bank prepares for its upcoming IPO, with potential violations of financial and industrial separation laws also under review.
