In March 2025, South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) directed Google to block 17 unregistered foreign cryptocurrency exchange apps from the Google Play Store, including platforms like KuCoin, MEXC, and Poloniex. This action prevents South Korean users from downloading or updating these applications. The FSC stated that these exchanges were operating without the necessary local registrations and were targeting South Korean users, posing risks related to money laundering and investor protection. Authorities are also working with Apple Korea and the Korea Communications Standards Commission to implement similar restrictions on the Apple App Store and related websites.
