SWI Group has officially taken control of Genesis Digital Assets, shifting its focus from bitcoin mining to artificial intelligence infrastructure. This strategic pivot comes with a significant investment of $896 million aimed at enhancing the company’s data-center capabilities for hyperscale computing.
Previously a major player in the crypto mining sector, Genesis Digital is now set to transform its power-intensive facilities, located in Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Sweden, to cater to the growing demands of AI service providers like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.
SWI's Chief Executive, Max-Hervé George, has expressed a clear disinterest in continuing bitcoin mining operations, emphasizing the need for capital to deploy more computing resources. This transition reflects a broader trend where crypto miners are adapting their infrastructures to meet the rising demand for AI computing power.
The acquisition marks a significant turnaround for Genesis Digital, which was once heavily backed by FTX and faced scrutiny following the exchange's collapse. With the legal disputes surrounding its past now resolved, SWI aims to leverage the existing data centers for more stable and lucrative AI contracts.
