South African crypto payments startup MoneyBadger has raised $400,000 (approx. R7 million) in a pre-seed funding round led by P1 Ventures and three crypto-focused angel investors. Founded by Carel van Wyk (Luno co-founder) and Carl Kritzinger (FireWorks founder), the company enables Bitcoin payments in over 1,600 Pick n Pay outlets and other retailers. MoneyBadger’s system processes around R1.4 million ($83,000) in monthly crypto transactions. The funding will expand partnerships with QR payment networks, ecommerce platforms, and Tier 1 payment processors. It supports growing demand in South Africa, where over 66% of crypto holders want to spend digital assets in daily purchases.
