Presently, where many countries across the globe are adopting and steadily studying the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has initiated a feasibility study for a general-purpose retail central bank digital currency. Reportedly, the SARB is expected to conclude its study by 2022. However, the study will also take a look into a variety of factors, including regulatory, security, policy, and risk management implications.
