David Marcus, former PayPal executive and co-creator of Meta’s Diem project, has set ambitious goals for his new Bitcoin-focused startup, Lightspark, which recently secured $175 million in funding. Marcus envisions transforming Lightspark into a pioneering company that builds robust infrastructure for Bitcoin and the Lightning Network, aiming to make digital payments faster, cheaper, and more scalable. However, he acknowledges that achieving these transformative goals could take decades, or even “the rest of his life,” given the complexity of creating a global payment ecosystem that fully capitalizes on Bitcoin’s potential. Marcus’s commitment reflects his long-term belief in Bitcoin’s role in reshaping financial systems.
