A man has fallen victim to a romance-based cryptocurrency scam, losing a staggering $200,000. The scam began with an online relationship that appeared genuine, often referred to as “pig butchering.” The scammer gradually gained the victim’s trust before convincing him to invest in a fake crypto trading platform. The victim was shown fake profits to encourage more deposits. Eventually, all communication ceased, and the funds were unrecoverable. Authorities are warning the public to be cautious with online relationships, especially those involving financial discussions, and to avoid transferring money or investing in unfamiliar or unverified crypto platforms promoted by new acquaintances.
