The U.S. Department of Justice announced the largest-ever seizure of funds tied to cryptocurrency confidence scams, totaling over $225 million. The operation targeted a network of scammers running “pig butchering” schemes, where victims are manipulated into fake romantic or investment relationships and coerced into transferring funds to fraudulent platforms. The seized assets were linked to more than 70 accounts suspected of laundering proceeds from thousands of victims worldwide. Authorities collaborated with international law enforcement and blockchain analysis firms to track the funds. The DOJ emphasized its commitment to combating crypto fraud and protecting vulnerable individuals from these growing scams.
