Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon have partnered to launch tokenized money market fund shares using blockchain technology. Through BNY’s LiquidityDirect platform and Goldman’s GS DAP blockchain, institutional investors can now subscribe and redeem fund shares as digital tokens. This pilot enhances settlement speed, offers 24/7 access, and enables tokenized assets to be used as collateral. The initiative includes major funds like BlackRock and Fidelity. It follows growing industry momentum toward asset tokenization and regulatory clarity via the GENIUS Act. While promising greater efficiency and transparency, concerns remain about cybersecurity and broad regulatory safeguards, especially for potential retail investor participation.
