A new crypto scam targets Web3 professionals using fake meeting apps to steal cryptocurrency wallets and credentials. Scammers pose as legitimate businesses, inviting victims to download fraudulent meeting applications. These apps mimic platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams but contain malware that accesses sensitive wallet information. Once installed, the malware collects crypto wallet seed phrases and private keys, enabling the theft of funds. The scam primarily affects blockchain developers, investors, and Web3 startups. Experts recommend verifying app authenticity, avoiding unsolicited downloads, and using secure hardware wallets to safeguard assets. Increased awareness and proactive cybersecurity measures are critical to counter such threats.
