U.S. federal agents arrested two individuals, Malone Lam and Jeandiel Serrano, for stealing $230 million in Bitcoin from a Washington, D.C. resident, reportedly a Genesis creditor. The pair used sophisticated social engineering techniques, including posing as Google and Gemini support, to compromise the victim's accounts. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT helped trace the stolen funds, which were laundered across multiple exchanges. Law enforcement, with the help of crypto forensic teams, has frozen over $9 million, with $500,000 returned to the victim.
