A group of scammers exploited YouTube's live streaming platform to orchestrate a fraudulent cryptocurrency giveaway, impersonating Tesla CEO Elon Musk to trick unsuspecting viewers. The scam involved broadcasting deepfake videos of Musk promoting a bogus giveaway, enticing users to send cryptocurrency to specified addresses. According to a joint report from SpaceX and BitOK, the scammers managed to amass approximately $165,000 in cryptocurrency before the scheme was uncovered. The report details the modus operandi of the scam, which involved utilizing QR codes displayed during the live streams to direct users to a website containing wallet addresses for sending their cryptocurrency contributions.
