Australian authorities have identified over 130 victims targeted by scammers impersonating Binance through fake SMS messages. These fraudulent texts appear in legitimate message threads, claiming accounts are compromised and directing victims to call a fake hotline. Scammers then trick victims into transferring their cryptocurrency to fraudulent wallets. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is investigating the scheme as part of Operation Firestorm, a global crackdown on digital fraud. Recovering stolen funds remains difficult due to rapid crypto transfers. Authorities urge victims to report incidents to banks, exchanges, and law enforcement via ReportCyber, referencing case number AFP-068.
