There is an increase in the use of crypto-assets and also a rising demand for getting paid in cryptocurrency. New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD) published a new rule that legalized salary and wage payments in cryptocurrency. The ruling is effective for the next three years starting on September 1, 2019. Employees who are getting paid in cryptocurrency has to follow a ‘pay as you earn income’ tax scheme, just like the tax legislation of regular fiat salaries.
