Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has criticized the potential life sentence facing early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver, labeling it "absurd" and possibly politically motivated. Ver, known as "Bitcoin Jesus," was indicted for alleged tax fraud and could face up to 109 years in prison. Buterin argues that imprisoning someone for life over non-violent tax offenses is disproportionate, especially when others accused of more severe crimes have received milder sentences. He suggests that Ver's advocacy for freedom and his challenge to state power may have influenced the severity of the charges. Other industry figures, including Ross Ulbricht and Jesse Powell, have also expressed support for Ver, questioning the harshness of the potential punishment.
