The town of Conchagua in El Salvador has announced plans to build its own Bitcoin City, after growing tired of waiting for President Nayib Bukele to fulfill his promise to build a Bitcoin City in the town. Bukele first announced the Bitcoin City project in November 2021, but there has been little progress since then. Conchagua's mayor, Milton Gonzalez, says that the town can no longer wait for Bukele, and that it will build its own Bitcoin City using private investment. Gonzalez says that Conchagua is a prime location for a Bitcoin City because it is home to the Conchagua volcano, which can be used to generate geothermal energy to power the city. He also says that the town is located near the coast, which will make it easy to trade with other Bitcoin cities around the world.
