Justin Bons, the founder of Cybercapital, recently described Layer 2 (L2) solutions as "parasitic" to Ethereum. Bons argues that these L2s, designed to enhance Ethereum's scalability and reduce transaction costs, may actually undermine the core value proposition of the Ethereum network. According to Bons, L2s could divert activity and value away from the Ethereum mainnet, potentially weakening its security and decentralization. He believes that instead of relying on L2s, the focus should be on improving Ethereum's Layer 1 to ensure the network remains robust and sustainable without external dependencies.
