A Wellington-based man linked to the global OneCoin cryptocurrency scam has had assets worth $462,000 restrained by New Zealand authorities. The FBI-led investigation revealed that funds were funneled into New Zealand between 2018 and 2020 to purchase property and other assets. OneCoin, founded by Ruja Ignatova and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, is alleged to have defrauded investors of over $6.5 billion through a pyramid scheme disguised as a cryptocurrency investment. The restrained assets are believed to be proceeds of this scam. New Zealand police continue to cooperate with international agencies to prevent financial crimes involving digital currencies and global money laundering.
