A fraudulent cryptocurrency investment app has duped hundreds of residents in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, promising high returns through digital assets. Victims were lured via social media and word-of-mouth to invest in the app, which showcased fake profits to build trust. Initial withdrawals were allowed to gain confidence, but the app later blocked access, and the operators vanished. The total estimated loss runs into several crores. Police have launched an investigation, urging people to report if affected. Authorities are also warning citizens to verify credentials before investing and to avoid platforms lacking regulatory oversight or transparency.
