Pablo Renato Rodriguez, a co-founder of the cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme AirBit Club, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and three years of supervised release on Tuesday. He was also ordered to pay a forfeiture of $65 million and other items. Rodriguez and his co-conspirators used a variety of methods to defraud investors, including promising high returns on cryptocurrency investments that did not exist. They also used a pyramid scheme structure, where investors were paid out of the investments of new investors. AirBit Club is estimated to have defrauded investors of over $100 million. Rodriguez's sentencing is a reminder of the importance of being vigilant when investing in cryptocurrency and other digital assets.
