Cardano, the world's fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, is making the long-awaited move to the smart contract age. The Alonzo Purple testnet, the first fully public Cardano testnet to allow smart contracts, is now up and operating. The platform's developers intend to release complete smart contract compatibility in the coming weeks. "It's a watershed moment," the developer team wrote on Twitter, "marking major progress in the distribution of smart contracts on the Cardano mainnet."
