On November 5, 2023, Bitfinex, a popular cryptocurrency exchange, suffered a minor phishing attack. The attacker targeted a customer support agent, who was tricked into revealing their login credentials. This allowed the attacker to access the customer support system and view partial, incomplete, and outdated information about some users. Bitfinex has stated that the attacker was not able to access any core systems or user funds. The company has also taken steps to mitigate the damage, such as resetting the passwords of all affected users and notifying them of the attack. Bitfinex has also advised users to be vigilant against phishing attacks and to take steps to protect their accounts, such as using strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication.
