The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged five people with advertising BitConnect, an unregistered digital securities offering. According to the SEC, the program used a network of promoters to raise nearly $2 billion from individual investors. "We will strive to hold individuals who benefit illegally by exploiting the public's enthusiasm in digital assets accountable," an SEC official stated. BitConnect claimed typical daily returns of one percent, according to the SEC.
